vocabulary 20


  1. atrophy 萎缩 (verb): to waste away (The imagination can atrophy from lack of use.)
  2. deplore 谴责 (verb): to condemn (We deplore the accident.)
  3. deprivation 损失(noun): a deficiency (Sleep deprivation can cause stress, loss of appetite胃口 and lethargy没精打采.)
  4. exacerbate 使恶化 (verb): to find the cause of (The drugs they gave her only exacerbated the pain.)
  5. imperative 必要的(adj): essential (It's imperative that he should not be seen here.)
  6. mitigate 减轻(verb): to relieve (Nothing could mitigate the cruelty残酷 with which she treated him.)
  7. objective客观的 (adj): fair (a matter of objective fact)
  8. panacea 万灵药 (noun): a complete solution ( My aunt consider vitamins a panacea. She believes that they can cure everything from chapped裂开 lips to heart disease.)
  9. unprecedented 无前例的 (adj): unheard-of (unprecedented economic growth)
  10. utilitarian 有效用的 (adj): practical (very utilitarian  in style )
