  1. connoisseur (noun): an authority (He is a connoisseur of antique古代的 furniture.)
  2. conspiracy 阴谋 (noun): a plot (The men were found guilty of conspiracy to murder.)
  3. contrite (adj): sorry (Judges are often more lenient宽大的 with offenders罪犯 who truly regret后悔 their crimes. A criminal who seems genuinely真地 contrite may get a shorter sentence.)
  4. distraught 几乎发狂的 (adj): upset (She sounded absolutely distraught.)
  5. germane (adj): related (The fact is not germane to this issue.)
  6. lucid (adj): easy to understand (His explanation was lucid and to the point.)
  7. plight困境 (noun): an unfortunate situation (You have only yourself to thank for the plight you are in.)
  8. superficially 浅薄地 (adv): slightly (Their experiences are superficially similar.)
